ROUTE 1: ADMISSION THROUGH ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS

Eligible applicants will sit for University Entrance Examinations on 3rd January 2018, with registration for Entrance Examination on 2nd January 2018. Names of those selected will be released before the end of January 2018. Selected candidates will commence their studies on 12th February 2018.

Eligibility - Who should Apply

Malawi Schools Certificate or its Equivalent
Those with MSCE or its equivalent plus credits in six subjects including English and an aggregate score of no more than thirty (30) points.

Those with IGCSE and GCE O-Levels should use the following interpretation:
IGCSE results are reported on an 8-point scale of grades, the following is the Catholic University of Malawi interpretation of IGCSE results for admission purposes:

A* = 1; A = 2; B = 3; C = 5; D = 7; E = 8; F & G; = 9.

GCE O-level results are reported on a 5-point scale of grades and the Catholic University of Malawi interpretation of the grades is as follows:

A=1; B = 3: C = 5; D = 7; E = 8.

Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent should be obtained in no more than two sittings in the recent past two years. Please NOTE that Candidates who have credits in less than six subjects and have an aggregate MSCE score of more than 30 points are not eligible to apply.

However, those who have obtained credit passes in four subjects including English can apply for the Bridging programme whose details are contained under Route 2. Candidates, who were withdrawn from the Catholic University of Malawi or any other accredited institution of higher learning on academic grounds, are not eligible for selection.

Submission of Application Package

Those applying through this route must ensure that they submit a complete set of documents as listed below:

1. Completed application form
   
2. Copy of certificate or original copy of notification of results
3. Original copy of the bank deposit slip for the non-refundable application fee
4. Letter of commitment for financial support
5. Passport size photograph
   

ROUTE 2: ADMISSION THROUGH BRIDGING PROGRAMME

The University will run the Bridging Programme commencing in mid-December 2017 for five weeks. Successful applicants will be communicated to in the first week of December 2017. Upon successful completion of the bridging programme, a person is eligible to enroll in one of the university programmes specified under this route. Names of those who successfully complete the Bridging Programme will be released together with those selected under the Entrance Examination Entry Route later in January 2018 and studies shall commence on 12th February 2018.

Eligibility for the Bridging Programme

Who should apply?
The Bridging Programme is aimed at providing academic study opportunity to those who do not meet the prescribed university normal entry requirements. Those with MSCE or its equivalent plus credits in four subjects including English and an aggregate of not more than thirty-four (34) points are in this category. The

Bridging Programme is also open to those with credits in six subjects including English and qualify to write University Entrance Examinations but choose to gain pre-university experience before admission. In either of the two scenarios above, applicants should be those with Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained in not more than two sittings in the recent past two years. The university interpretation of IGCSE and O-Level as an equivalent to MSCE is as follows:
IGCSE; A*=1, A=2, B=3, C=5, D=7, E=8, F=9
GCE O-Level; A=1, B=3, C=5, D=7; E=8

Bridging Programme Outline
Successful applicants shall be enrolled and register for five courses which shall be examined at the end of the programme. Only those who pass will be eligible for admission in one of the university programme of study. The following courses are offered during the Bridging Programme;

1. Numerical Skills,
   
2. Information and Computer Technology,
3. Communication and Study Skills and
4. Critical Thinking
   

ROUTE 3: ADMISSION NOT REQUIRING NEITHER ENTRANCE EXAMS NOR BRIDGING PROGRAMME

“A” Level Qualification

Candidates with A-Level qualification must have a minimum of three principal passes with an aggregate of at least 9 points. For purposes of selection, A-Level is interpreted as follows:
A=5, B=4, C= 3.
Such candidates will not be required to write the university entrance examinations.

Other Advanced Certificates (Mature Entry)
The University also considers those with advanced certificates and diplomas from recognized and accredited institutions in the relevant areas of study. Candidates who apply using advanced certificates and diplomas are vetted by respective Faculties on a case-by-case basis to determine their eligibility and level of entry. Such candidates will not be required to write the University Entrance Examinations.
